A visit to the ocean

rocks along the Kortum trail

Walking along the Kortum trail

the bright green grasses moving with the wind.

Noticing the sounds of the ocean behind me.

The winds rustling through the trees

over the mountain, down to the sea.

The ocean making dramatic splashes

as it meets the sand and rocks.

Nature all around me.

Birds using the winds to hover spying food

or to glide using that updraft.

Fox and coyote leaving their mark

and now hiding from human forms.

It’s the beauty that brings me here

on this sunny day, the views, the splashes.

The spontaneity of those waves

 that are never the same.

That come and go with grace

not hanging on or controlling the motion,

just gracefully steady one after another.

Such gratitude and grace for that within me

that brought me here.

Gratitude for my balance that enables me to walk

in this fierce wind upright and stable.

My eyes that allow me to see the hawks and kites

and the views from high above the beach below.

Feeling the air, feeling the wind,

Feeling the aliveness of where I am.

It brings me back to gratitude

and grace that brought me here today.

The wonders of nature

the healing power of nature.

The overwhelming joy

seeing these grasses squirm in the wind,

the waves crashing against the rock.

The sun shining so brightly on my face.
